Jake BraunWhat is Twitter for?
Twitter can be a confusing and enigmatic site for a new user or business. The basic idea is to “follow” people or businesses who interest you and encourage others to “follow” you.
As a local business, your best bet is to follow other local businesses and personalities and their followers. A certain percentage will reciprocate by following you as well. The second phase is to tweet unique tid bits or enticing deals. This will encourage your followers to explore your tweets and even drawn in new followers.
The trick to a good post is writing something enticing in just a few words, because of the 140 character limit. Also, be sure to include a link back to your website, blog, or eCommerce store to profit from those who are interested by your tweet and want to learn more.
Lastly, most successful tweets or twitter advertising campaigns employ hashtags. A hashtag is a short word or phrase prefixed with the hashtag character (#). For example, in 2012 and 2013, Nike asked people how they will #MakeItCount. Hashtags have become so engrained in society, they’re now even parodied in entertainment television. Make sure you take advantage of them too.
